White Pokeballs Mean New Content!
I made a Pokémon trainer card! You can make one here! Trainer Card Maker!
The Pokémon I chose were ones I’ve used a lot in my playthroughs and left an impression, but aren’t necessarily my favorite Pokémon.
For the avatar I picked the one with a microphone of course , because I’m a YouTuber and I feel like that’s the only choice for me. XD
You can really customize the cards, and you don’t need an account or anything, so I highly recommend making one!
I'm not super great at picking faves, but these are some Pokémon I really like. Some I think are super cute, others are go to picks for a play-through. This list will probably change a lot XP
Pokemon Gaia is a rom hack of Fire red. That takes place in the Orbtus region. A brand-new region made just for this game. It has 8 new gym leaders, 4 new elite 4 members. A new champion, A new evil team (though they wear the same outfits as Team Plasma. A new professor and a new rival. It’s basically a brand-new Pokémon game. Although it has no new Pokémon. Instead, it has all Pokémon from gens 1-6 and the battle mechanics from gen 6, plus mega evolutions. You also start out with the Sinnoh starters.
Personally I loved this game! It’s hands down the best rom hack I’ve ever played. It felt like I was playing a real official Pokemon game. Its story wasn’t deep or anything, but it had that Pokemon charm that I love so much. The region was interesting and had fun locations. The game even had some awesome puzzles that I don’t want to spoil. The game also has some new music that slays! Honestly there is a lot more to say, but I really think you should experience it yourself!
I would not say that Gaia is a hard game. It wasn’t as easy as modern Pokémon games, but I’ve played rom hacks with much higher difficulties. If you are a hard core player then you may want to add nuzlock rules. There are tons of Pokémon to choose from, so I think this game would be amazing for challenges. The game is also missing some quality of life improvements that other rom hacks have. Like you can’t see IVs or EVs for example. I don’t mind this. It really makes the game feel more like an official release.
Sadly there isn’t much of a post game to speak of. The end credits said they would add one in version 4. The latest version (3.2) came out in 2018. So I suspected the game might have stopped being developed. To my splendid surprise the game is still being developed. Obviously this game is a labor of love, so it could still be another few years before we get version 4. As it is,I love the game, and if this was all we got I’d be happy.
I can't recommend this game enough go play it now! I’ll include some screenshots of my final team down below. I can’t think of any glitches in the game. Other than there not being a sound effect when you enter a Pokémon center, but I don’t really care about that. Hats off to the developers of this incredible rom hack!
Pokémon Yellow was the Gen 1 “spin off” of Red and Blue. It was the Gen 1 game that let you use Pikachu as your starter. Or I should say forced you too. You had no choice of starter Pokémon, but Yellow also allowed you to obtain all 3 starters with no second game required. Even if you couldn’t evolve Pikachu it was a fun game.
In 2004 Pokémon would remake Red and blue for the game boy advanced. The games were named Pokémon Fire red and Leaf green. And if you ask me these are the best ways to play through Kanto today. I never played the original gen 1 games or the remakes as a kid, but I played Fire Red as an adult and I absolutely loved it. Sadly we never got a remake of Pokémon Yellow. Unless you want to count Pokémon Lets Go Pikachu.
Well Feather decided fix this problem and made a rom hack of fire red. The game is called “Pokémon Thunder Yellow”! It’s basically just Pokémon Yellow with GBA graphics.
This Rom hack could have just been Fire Red, but with a Pikachu as your starter, however this game goes the extra mile. It’s pretty much a 1 for 1 remake of the original. Pokémon Yellow remade all the sprites from red and blue, so Pokémon Thunder yellow does the same! Giving us colored versions of all the old sprites. Well some of the sprites look better to me than the Fire Red sprites but, some look worse too. That is a matter of personal preference though. The game also gives you an option to use the old soundtrack instead of the remake music for extra nostalgia. You can switch back and forth using the GameBoy player option in your bag.
My only real complaint with this game is there are no running shoes. I know yellow didn’t have them either, but it’s just a small quality of life thing that would make the game better. The game is also a little glitchy, but it doesn’t break anything. It’s just funny little glitches like PROF OAK walking through walls. Pikachu will also sometimes stop following you, but he will come back any time you enter or unenter a building or cave.
Overall I think Pokémon Thunder Yellow is a top tier rom hack. It’s not one of my favorites, but it’s a must-play for any fans of the original Pokémon Yellow. I think You’d like it! I’ll post a pic of my team at the end of the game right below.
Pokémon Liquid Crystal is a rom hack of Pokémon Fire red that tried to recreate Pokémon Crystal for the Game boy advanced.
My first Pokémon game was Pokémon Sapphire. That’s probably why Hoenn is my favorite region. I never played Gold, Silver, or Crystal. I also never played any of the remakes, so I was excited to experience Johto for the first time.
This game takes a lot of liberty with its recreation of Crystal. The opening screen shows the Triforce and the rom includes a few songs from the Legend of Zelda. Which I don’t mind because Zelda is one of my favorite game franchises. You will also find many gen 3 Pokémon in this hack as well as gen 3 battle mechanics. The plot has also been changed a lot, but I don’t want to spoil it. The game also adds lots of post game content giving you plenty to do. They even included the orange islands. Trainer teams have been reworked, and the game includes a lot of original art trying to upgrade crystal for newer hardware.
This game can be a bit rough around the edges. For example when you are running sometimes the game won’t play the running animation. Whitney’s over world sprite doesn’t show for some reason. Overall the hack is pretty glitchy. The rom came out in 2013, so I don’t think these bugs will be fixed. The game adds a lot of dialog too, but it’s a bit all over the place. For example, they talk about McDonald’s. They also cuss in the game as well. So it doesn’t feel like an authentic Pokémon experience. If you mash through the dialog (which you will probably do as it can be kinda stale) you may miss important information. If you aren’t sure what to do next there is no easy way to get help. The hack has been changed quite a bit from Crystal, so you will need a guide specifically for Pokémon Liquid Crystal.
Overall I enjoyed the game. It is missing a lot of the quality of life features from other rom hacks, but it’s also a pretty old rom. It also feels a lot more like a fan project as opposed to an official Pokémon game. Well it’s not my favorite rom hack I still had a blast. The game doesn’t really fix a lot of the problems with the gen 2 games. The game feels a bit random at times, some trainers can be really annoying like Karen’s Umbreon. It’s still a pretty easy game, and Fire Red cheat codes work. If you want to experience Gen 2 on the GBA check it out!
